Techno-consult International Gets the Contract to Develop New Drainage System for DHA

A meeting to finalize the consultants for design of drainage system and upgradation of sewerage system in DHA was held at Defence Housing Authority’s Main Office on October 23, 2007. Administrator DHA presided over the meeting.

The contract has been awarded to Techno-Consult International after an elaborate process of prequalification and technical evaluation. It is pertinent to mention that the same consultants had designed a new drainage system for Clifton and Bath Island areas last year.

A sum of Rs 750 million has been allocated by the DHA Executive Board for the drainage project for the current fiscal year. The entire project would be completed in 2-3 years in a phased programme.

The consultants would employ precast modular design for building the new drains. Three to four interconnected main drains would be built in the first phase during this fiscal year to ensure smooth flow and drainage of storm water in any rainy season.

The project also includes framing a master plan of drainage system for entire DHA through topographical survey and use of modern Geographical Info System (GIS) technology.
Administrator DHA emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the time frame while ensuring quality, durability and technical efficacy of the work. He said that the roads damaged in DHA during the last monsoon were being repaired to make them functional and would be completely rebuilt later on after laying the new drainage system.
