SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT - ZAMZAMA COMMERCIAL AREA

In pursuance to directives of the President Executive Board (PEB) / Commander 5 Corps and Administrator DHA, Cantonment Board Clifton has commenced concerted measures with reinvigorated strategy to streamline the Solid Waste and Conservancy Management System in DHA. It would help create a neat, clean and healthy living environment.
Zamzama Commercial Area has been selected as a Model Project for waste management; to be followed by Zamzama Residential Area for implementing new concept of conservancy and waste removal management system. The new strategy encompasses the follows:-

  • Daily intensive sweeping and regular removal of solid waste in the area.
  • Residents and Shopkeepers to be encouraged to use garbage & plastic bags.
  • Concept of introducing waste removal and sweeping during night hours.
  • Garbage bins will be placed in closely knitted area for convenience of public at large.
  • CBC will establish and adopt a Complaint Centre for speedy disposal of complaints.
  • Members of ADR have been brought on board to establish liaison with inhabitants of Zamzama to solicit their suggestions and recommendations for improvements.

Awareness Campaign

An awareness campaign will be launched through following measures: -

  • Stage-I - Education/Awareness of Residents
    • Leaflets on management of solid waste to be distributed among the residents and shopkeepers
    • Awareness of the residents/shopkeepers regarding the solid waste management plan through media
    • Advertisement in Newspapers
    • House to house and shop to shop visits by Residents' Committee Members to familiarize house wives and shop keepers regarding solid waste management process.
    • Groups of school children to visit the houses and shops to urge the residents and shopkeepers not to litter the area
  • Stage - II
    • Provision of shopping bags to residents for disposal of garbage.
    • Placement of Garbage Bins in the area
    • Sweeping operation at night
The project would be initiated for 46 days duration in Zamzama Commercial Area and Zamzama Residential Area after which evaluation of the project will be made for future implementation. DHA/CBC is committed to serve its residents and to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
