Karachi, Jan 24: An Inter Collegiate Bilingual Declamation Contest was held at DHACSS Degree College (Boys & Girls). A large number of reputed educational institutions of the city participated in the contest, which is an annual event in the College's co-curricular activities.
Renowned scholar Mr Javed Jabbar was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof Sumair Majid and Prof Shagufta Khurram Sidiki (English) while Dr Umme Ferwa and Mr Mazhar Ahmed Khan (Urdu) were judges for the declamation contest.
The chief guest appreciated the powerful and dynamic speeches delivered by the talented and confident young speakers. He said that declamations/speech competitions equip one with confidence and courage to present his/her ideas in a logical, confident and convincing manner. He appreciated the standard of the declamation contest and observed that the participants demonstrated that they were fully knowledgeable about their subjects and were well aware of the challenges faced by the nation.
The Principal, Prof Syed Siraj Munir lauded the contributions of the College Debating Society in grooming the students in the art of public speaking. He said that declamations and debates provide the students an effective forum for enlightenment of mind and development of leadership skills.
In English Declamation, Laiba Khan of Agha Khan HSS (Morning) was declared first, Urooj Ahmed of Commecs College stood second and Huzefa Raza of D.J Science College got the third position.
In Urdu Declamation Laiba Rehman of Agha Khan HSS (Morning) got first position, Eishat Ur Razzia of Commecs College was second while the third position was won by Shibra Hameed of Bahria College NORE-I. The coveted trophy was won by Agha Khan Higher Secondary School (Morning).
